To this end, modern in vitro digestion models and cell culture systems are used that simulate the conditions in the human intestine. These include both two-dimensional models (e.g., Caco2, HT29) as well as three-dimensional cell culture models (e.g., organoids), which can be used to investigate, among other things, the integrity of the intestinal barrier, nutrient absorption, and immunological responses.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p class=\"p1\">Methods such as TEER measurements, FITC-dextran assays, and the analysis of tight junction proteins are used to evaluate intestinal barrier function. Other areas of investigation include bacterial translocation and interactions with the intestinal microbiome.
