Insects Plus Conference on Alternative Proteins and Biomass
The Insects Plus Conference provides a platform for discussion and innovation regarding technologies and products for alternative proteins
The Insects Plus Congress is a biennial international conference organized by the DIL (German Institute of Food Technology) and the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB). The goal of the event is to bring together stakeholders from academia, industry, startups, associations, and politics, and to promote professional exchange on alternative sources of protein and biomass.
What sets Insects Plus apart is its holistic approach across the entire value chain. The program addresses not only individual technologies or products, but also a systemic examination of alternative protein sources—from raw material extraction and processing, through safety and sustainability aspects, to market implementation, regulation, and societal acceptance. The thematic focus ranges from insects to microorganisms and algae to other alternative biomass sources.

With Insects Plus, we are creating opportunities for dialogue and networking regarding alternative protein and biomass sources throughout the entire value chain.

Insects Plus connects research and industry and offers presentations, discussions, and insights into specific applications
The Insects Plus Congress serves as an interdisciplinary platform for dialogue and networking, where new collaborations emerge and developments are objectively assessed. Organized jointly by DIL and ATB, the event brings together perspectives from food technology, the bioeconomy, and agricultural engineering. Through a close integration of scientific research and industrial practice, expert presentations, discussion panels, and practical contributions shed light on technological, regulatory, economic, and nutritional issues.
Complementary formats such as exhibitions, pitch sessions, and field trips provide additional insights into specific applications and promote knowledge transfer. Following the successful launch of the Insects Plus series, the conference will continue on a biennial basis at rotating locations. The next edition is planned for 2027 under the leadership of the ATB in the Berlin/Potsdam metropolitan area.
