From Science to Application: The Food Technologies Course at the International Summer University
Applied Food Technology in an International Context
The Course “Food Technologies” is part of the International Summer University at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and is held annually in close cooperation with the DIL (German Institute of Food Technology). The English-language summer program is aimed at international and domestic students (Bachelor’s/Master’s) in food technology and related fields. As part of the three-week program, participants combine the scientific fundamentals of food processing with hands-on laboratory and technology sessions, some of which take place at the DIL.
A central component of the course is direct collaboration with researchers at the DIL. Students gain insights into applied research projects, modern technical infrastructure, and practical issues relevant to the food industry. Through practical exercises and supervised assignments, theoretical knowledge is deepened and applied to real-world contexts. Topics covered include modern food production processes, current technological developments, and selected issues from research and industrial applications.
