RADIANT implements a range of strategic and comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approaches to collaboratively develop solutions and tools that ensure agrobiodiversity in the form of underutilized crops (UCs) is realized through dynamic value chains (Dynamic Value Chains; DVCs). RADIANT defines DVCs as “a system state in which an open exchange of information among all stakeholders in the value chain enables resilient adaptation to disruptions and sustainable economic development.”
RADIANT uses a “Theory of Change” approach to monitor desired system states—such as crop diversification, environmental and agrobiodiversity conservation, and equitable economic development—and to derive transformation pathways from them. The 28-member consortium brings together stakeholders from the value chain, researchers, and end users to harness the benefits of underutilized crops (UCs) and establish sustainable value chains. In a supportive educational, financial, and technological environment, UCs should be effectively brought from the field to the consumer—across agriculture, processing, manufacturing, and trade. In this way, value chains and policymakers can jointly reach up to 1 million farmers and more than 60 million potential consumers, thereby promoting the widespread adoption of these crops.
